Housekeeping Aide - Housekeeping
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Housekeeping Aide provides cleaning services to provide a safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment. Housekeeping services provided are in accord with facility policies and procedures and consistent with state and federal laws and regulations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Licensure: None

Work Experience: Prior housekeeping experience in an institutional setting preferred.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Performs cleaning duties in assigned areas as instructed, according to cleaning schedule for that area (e.g., daily, weekly, monthly, etc.) in a manner that does not interfere with patient care or privacy.

Vacuums, dry mops, wet mops, and disinfects as required in each area daily.

Dusts, damp wipes, spot cleans, washes, disinfects, polishes all surfaces and equipment as required according to cleaning schedule.

Straightens and rearranges furniture as directed.

Cleans walls, ceilings, interior windows, and mirrors according to department procedures and cleaning schedules.

Disposes of trash and waste, including bio-hazardous waste and other materials that require special handling in compliance with state and federal requirements.

Carries out terminal cleaning procedures when patient is discharged. Prepares room for new occupant.

Cleans linen supply room and assists with other cleaning duties in the laundry as directed.

Ensures that carts and other equipment are clean and functioning properly prior to use. Cleans carts after daily use according to established procedures.

Takes appropriate actions to secure housekeeping supplies.

Uses personal protective equipment when at risk of exposure to blood or other potentially hazardous body fluids and at all other times indicated by facility policies and procedures.

Complies with all safety instructions and procedures when using chemical substances. Refers to labels and Material Safety Data Sheets for instructions. Keeps all chemicals and cleaning supplies in their original containers. Asks supervisor for assistance if unsure of proper handling techniques.

Monitors and reports all evidence of rodents or pests to supervisor.

Assists Director of Housekeeping with preparation for state inspections. Attends survey training and interacts with state surveyors as instructed by immediate supervisor.

Reports injury of self or others to Supervisor immediately.

Monitors workplace for safety and fire hazards and corrects or reports potential problems. Reports housekeeping and maintenance problems, including equipment breakdown, to Director of Housekeeping promptly.

Participates in fire and disaster drills. In event of an emergency, carries out assigned duties to assure resident safety.

Essential functions are carried out in a variety of positions including standing and lifting. Virtually all positions require the ability to move freely through the building. Stooping bending, lifting and carrying, as well as other physical demands may be required.
