ER/Hospital Tech II
POSITION SUMMARY: The medical tech II is a certified and/or licensed paramedic functioning as part of the emergency department patient care team. The emergency room/hospital medical tech II will function under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or physician to provide direct care to patients needing services. The medical tech II will perform advanced patient care within State approved scope of practice for credentialed paramedics.


Education: High school graduate or equivalent

Licensure: Current State of Wyoming Paramedic license; Current verification of BLS and ACLS. Must obtain PALS certification within 6 months of hire.

Work Experience: 1-2 years working in a hospital setting and/or other ambulatory healthcare settings.


Conduct self in a professional, courteous manner with co-workers, staff and the public in order to maintain a cooperative relationship among the healthcare teams. Must adhere to a philosophy and culture of teamwork and cooperation.

Must have excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills, as well as a high level of sophistication to effectively communicate and interact with customers, co-workers, supervisors and the public.

Ability to assume responsibility and exercise authority over assigned work. Maintains patient confidentiality. Demonstrates honesty and integrity at all times in the care and use of resident and facility property.

Maintain clinical competencies and current requirements to practice as a Paramedic in the State of Wyoming

Performs care within State Approved Scope of Practice and approved competencies.

Attend and complete hospital and emergency department monthly staff meetings and in-services.


At the direction of a Registered Nurse or Provider and within the scope of licensure, performs urgent and emergent care procedures including EKGs, wound care, vital sign monitoring, medication administration, IV initiation and codes.

Assists with the mobilization, ambulation and transport of patients.

Participates in the provision of patient care based on setting and acuity of patient care needs. Ensures a safe, comfortable, therapeutic environment for patients and families. Organizes care in a manner that contributes to the overall quality of the team.

Documents and reports any pertinent changes to the nurse, charge nurse and provider. Provides patient report to other staff as necessary.

Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to emergency department procedures.

Obtains and records patient temperatures, pulse rates, blood pressure, weight and height measurements, places patient on pulse oximetery and cardiac monitors as per ED protocols or as directed

Provides in-patient IV services as required

Performs daily equipment checklist with documentation. Cleans and stocks the ED.

Makes transfer arrangements with appropriate EMS transport agency for ED patients needing to be transferred. Directs responding ambulance crews to the appropriate area of the ED for the patient transfer.

Maintains positive communications and collaboration with EMS service line, as well as other internal and external stakeholders
