Patient Registration Clerk - Business Office
POSITION SUMMARY:
The patient registration clerk will provide quality patient service by assisting individuals with questions, scheduling appointments and processing of forms. This individual will be the first point of contact for many patients; therefore, they are expected to kind, courteous and professional in all interactions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

Education: High School diploma or equivalent

Licensure: None required

Work Experience: Receptionist or office assistant experience preferred.

Free from illegal use of drugs and free from the use and effects of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.

Persons who have been found guilty by a court of law of abusing, neglecting or mistreating individuals in a health care related setting are ineligible for employment in this position.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Welcomes patients and visitors by greeting patients and visitors, in person or on the telephone; answering or referring inquiries.

Optimizes patients' satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization thru scheduling appointments in person or by telephone.

Keeps patient appointments on schedule by notifying provider/medical assistant of patient's arrival; reviewing service delivery compared to schedule; reminding provider of service delays.

Comforts patients by anticipating patients' anxieties; answering patients' questions; maintaining the reception area.

Ensures availability of treatment information by filing and retrieving patient records.

Maintains patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information.

Obtains revenue by recording and updating financial information; recording and collecting patient charges; controlling credit extended to patients; filing, collecting, and expediting third-party claims.

Maintains business office inventory and equipment by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies; scheduling equipment service and repairs.

Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information.

Maintains operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.

Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Scanning and input of medical documentation to patients’ electronic medical records.

Performs other duties as assigned.

The patient is responsible for getting a copy of the lab results to their provider.
