Dietary Cook/Aid - Dietary
Status: Full-time, 3 days per week 12 hours shifts.


We seek to enhance the quality of life and holistic growth of older persons by providing high quality service in a cheerful, timely manner and by communicating, coordinating and cooperating with others to attain goals. The cook/dietary assistant will prepare nutritionally sound meals consistent with departmental policies and procedures, state and federal laws and regulations and meals that meet daily nutritional and special dietary needs for residents, guests, and employees.


Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

Licensure: None. Must obtain Serv Safe certification within one year

Work Experience: Previous experience preferred.

Free from illegal use of drugs, and freedom from use and effects of use of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.

Persons who have been found guilty by a court of law of abusing, neglecting or mistreating individuals in a health care related setting are ineligible for employment in this position.


Must possess a team-oriented attitude and adhere to a continued willingness to implement new systems of operation when changes are required to promote patient and facility health, safety and satisfaction.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and activities simultaneously. Must be able to prioritize projects and handle change productively when assigned additional tasks/projects.

Conduct self in a professional, courteous manner with co-workers, staff and the public in order to maintain a cooperative relationship among the healthcare teams. Must adhere to a philosophy and culture of teamwork and cooperation.

Must have excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills, as well as a high level of sophistication to effectively communicate and interact with customers, co-workers, supervisors and the public.

Attend and participate all in monthly staff meetings and assigned training.

Able to carry out the essential functions of this job (with or without reasonable accommodation) without posing specific, current risk of substantial harm to health and safety of self and others.


Follow all state and federal laws and regulation, facility and department policies and procedures, including maintaining the confidentiality of all patients and residence in accordance with HIPAA.

Prepares and/or assists in preparing regular and therapeutic diets following oral and written instructions, medically ordered special drinks, menus, recipes, spreadsheets, etc., with knowledge of kitchen equipment operation.

Keeps food waste to a minimum.

Maintains routine meal schedules and serving times.

Prepares foods for special parties and groups, and assist in the planning of these events in a cooperative manner.

Cleans and maintains the kitchen facility in a safe and sanitary manner including floors, walls, all equipment and utensils.

Performs dish washing of pots, pans and other designated items.

Ensures orders are checked in and put away in an accurate and orderly manner to avoid waste.

Leads kitchen activity in absence of dietary manager.

Delivers food to patients and residents.

Takes food orders from various departments.

This job cannot be performed without exposure to the stresses associated with an intimate, 24-hour care environment that delivers care and services to the disabled and cognitively impaired and to the acutely ill and injured. Examples of these stresses include, but are not limited to: weekend and holiday duty, presence of consultants and attorneys, and variable involvement of medical staff.

Essential functions are carried out in a variety of positions including standing and lifting. Virtually all positions require the ability to move freely through the building. Stooping bending, lifting and carrying, as well as other physical demands are required.
